Maldives Police Project

The Maldives Police Service seeks to implement a range of reform initiatives to enhance and sustain improved policing services throughout the Republic, particularly at the local service delivery level. Central to this strategy is enhanced community responsiveness, creation of safer communities, and enhanced transparency and accountability for service delivery, under circumstances where human rights are respected and equitable access to services is paramount. The Maldives Police Service has clearly articulated this intent through its "National Strategic Development Plan - Sector Road Map" (2006 - 2010) which is aligned with the objectives of the Government of Maldives National Development Plan.

The Maldives Police Service seeks to progressively institutionalise processes and practices that will facilitate an environment conducive to continuous improvement, rather than embarking upon regular programs of major reform once service delivery and performance has declined to an unacceptable level.  The Government of Maldives has selected Global Justice Solutions as its implementation partner to support all aspects of project planning, technical oversight and management of activity implementation.

Global Justice Solutions works in a true partnership with the Maldives Police Service and their respective personnel work side by side under mentoring and coaching regimes within MPS institutions. In a unique implementation approach, the reform objectives emanating from the   Sector Road Map have been rationalised into a catalogue of some 50 projects which MPS and GJS now sequentially implement together. Hallmarks of the project include a focus on community oriented; intelligence led policing which is supported by appropriate human resource management and development practices, and contemporary policies, procedures and technical, managerial and administrative capacity.
