Iraq Law and Order Task Force

Global Justice Solutions (EMEA) provided criminal investigators to the Law and Order Task Force for Iraq, an AusAID-funded initiative.  The operational focus of Australia's contribution to LAOTF is to provide training and mentoring support to build Iraqi capacity in the field of criminal investigation and prosecution.   Australia's contribution will therefore focus on capacity building of the Iraqi law and justice sector, not undertaking front-line investigations, prosecutions, case work or court proceedings.

Over the next 12 months, our criminal investigators will train and mentor their Iraqi colleagues to be able to:

  • inquire into serious criminal allegations,
  • gather relevant evidence to support a prosecution case,
  • interview witnesses and prepare associated witness statements,
  • ensure chain of custody for physical evidence,
  • prepare evidence gathered during an investigation in a logical manner, and
  • prepare a brief of evidence.
