Australia-Fiji Law and Justice Sector Program

Working with communities, government and non government stakeholders, the Australia Fiji Law and Justice Sector Program seeks to strengthen the capacity of the criminal and civil justice sector to contribute to the application of the rule of law in Fiji. Following an earlier scoping mission, the first stages of the program commenced in June 2003 and involved the development of a program design framework, the development and implementation of an interim activity plan and the completion of an annual work plan for 2004. The program team includes a mix of international and locally engaged advisers who work across the continuum of justice sector agencies with activities ranging from crime prevention and community safety through to prisoner rehabilitation and community based corrections. Participating government agencies include police, courts, corrections, public prosecutions, legal aid, public trust, law reform and law revision.

SAGRIC International Pty Ltd is the managing contractor, with Global Justice Solutions providing specialist services including leading the problem and situational analyses, development of the program design and the development of successive annual plans. Global Justice Solutions personnel also manage the overall strategic direction for the program, provide technical oversight, and provide specialist technical advisers for the program.
