Global Justice Solutions (EMEA), working in close collaboration with the Syrian Ministry of Tourism, is implementing the Syria Tourism Police Project. This project was designed with the intention of supporting the Government of Syria to fulfil its vision of promoting economic growth, international dialogue and regional development through increased tourism opportunities. GJS wishes to introduce our project team!
Tim Fenlon is the Project Manager of the Syria Tourism Police Project. He served with the Queensland Police Service for 32 years and worked primarily in criminal investigation areas before being promoted to senior positions within the organisation. At senior officer level, he worked in drug / alcohol program, policy, major event planning and community policing areas.
Upon leaving the police service, Tim moved to the Federated States of Micronesia where he has worked throughout the pacific region on policing related projects. In October 2008, he took up the current position of Project Manager on the Syria Tourism Police Project.
Matilda Cooper joined the Syria Tourism Police Project in October 2008 as the Deputy Project Manager. She grew up in Oxford UK, however long held the desire to travel to the Middle East to study Arabic language and culture. After gaining her Bachelor of Arts (French Studies and Drama) from the University of Birmingham, she performed volunteer work with Save the Children in UK and Botswana and the Foundation Pauliani in France. She is fluent in French and used this skill to teach French language to 13-18 year olds in Africa.
Over the last 18 months, Matilda has primarily lived in Damascus, Syria where she studies Modern Arabic Language at the University of Damascus.
Alia Fardi is the Syria Tourism Police Project Support Officer. Born and raised in Syria she recently graduated from the Damascus Law University with a Bachelor of Law. During her studies she specialised in international law, international diplomacy and Palestinian Affairs.
She has travelled to Germany and is fluent in her native language (Arabic) and English and competent in German.
In addition to her Project work, Alia performs volunteer work with the International Law Panel in the Syrian Red Crescent, the Syrian branch of an international organisation closely associated with the International Red Cross and which provides community support services to orphans, Iraqi refugees and elderly people living in retirement shelters.
